BESTcic is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (9577075) that is run for the benefit of Barnet residents and wider community.  Our volunteers are the back bone and foundation of Barnet Environment Support Team & strive for nothing but the BEST! Share your skills and Join the team today.

We would like to connect mentally challenged groups of people suffering from a neurological disorder with the wider community through facilitated gardening and nature-based activities. The aims of this initiative are to improve our mental wellbeing, enhance our physical health and tackle the effects of climate change. Our therapeutic community gardening will act as a green social prescription for the neuro groups (e.g. autistic, depressed) and wider public to utilise green spaces through gardening activities to help improve their mental health, improve social skills and develop more confidence. Community gardening will contribute to conserving biodiversity through planting fruits /vegetables / trees, by developing flower meadows for pollinators, composting and adopting more green spaces to maintain.

We will provide FREE  seedlings, seeds, fruit cuttings and accompanying growing medium plus online support to those who can adopt the seedlings! Volunteers needed to meke this happen.. Please register or get in touch to take part please!!

Home-Grown Organics (HGO)

The youth will play a crucial role in the initial phase by providing (through selling) a regular supply of home grown seedlings to other residents and the community through the project, Home Grown Organics (HGO). Local residents will drive this campaign through friendly  competitions, social events and campaigns on organic farming and environmental issues to encourage knowledge exchange and community engagement.  BEST will provide support through resources and information to our members.

Barnet Allotments Community Gardening Project 2025

Volunteers from Barnet alongside the neuro sufferers will be invited to our regular gardening sessions at the allotments (or adopted green spaces) to engage with nature and community by planting trees / vegetation plus learn how to grow different foods. These plants and their roots in the gardens will also help to mitigate the effects of climate change by capturing carbon and thus improving air quality as well as reducing flood risk. Participants will benefit from receiving planting resources , tutorials and free seedlings to replant at their green patch or container gardens.
